🔗 Share this article Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3. During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit. A Two-Season Greenlight In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters. "I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come." Network Praise The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style. "All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Wholesome Alternative When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives. At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape. “There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.” What Comes Next Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan. The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
