Rob Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the team - are among the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a potential obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves directors as they begin the search of hiring a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
