The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.

An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the production team.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The previous series concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived this week.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the police force.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.

However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, plot details hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh season."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."

"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.

However, the network confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
