Oscar-Nominated Star Diane Ladd, Famed For Her Performance in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Has Died at 89 Years Old.

This Oscar-nominated actor Diane Ladd has died at the age of 89.

This star, whose filmography featured Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, died at her home in Ojai, California. This announcement was revealed in a statement from her daughter, Oscar-winning actor Laura Dern, her daughter.

Dern, who appeared with her mother in a number of films like Wild at Heart, referred to her as “my incredible hero and my special gift being my mom”, stating that she was at her bedside during her final moments.

“She was an exceptional mother, daughter, grandmother, actress, artist as well as caring individual that only dreams could have seemingly created,” she expressed. “We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”

Initial Roles and Breakthrough

Her initial acting years featured supporting roles in TV shows including Perry Mason and the 1970s had her appearing with Jack Nicholson in Chinatown.

That very year, 1974, she appeared with Ellen Burstyn in Scorsese’s celebrated film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, a classic. The performance brought Ladd an Academy Award nomination in the supporting actress category.

1980s and Beyond

Throughout the 1980s, she appeared in the dramatic film Black Widow plus funny follow-up Christmas Vacation while also joining the sitcom Alice, a television series based on the film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

In the following decade, she was given a further best supporting actress Oscar nomination for her performance in David Lynch’s Wild at Heart, a cult classic in which she portrayed the mom of her actual daughter the character played by Dern. The following year she received an additional nod for her role in the film Rambling Rose that also featured her daughter.

“This was the film which Princess Diana selected as her very favorite, and she flew us to London for a royal premiere and a party dedicated to us,” Ladd recalled of Rambling Rose. “She sat with us, holding both our hands, and crying, viewing our performance.”

That decade included parts in comedy Cemetery Club, a film reuniting her with Burstyn, the movie Primary Colors, a comedy about politics, starring John Travolta and the film by Alexander Payne Citizen Ruth, a dark comedy where she acted as Laura Dern’s mom again. That period also earned her nominations for Emmy Awards for performances in the series Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, the show Grace Under Fire and Touched by an Angel.

Collaborations with Daughter

She persisted in performing alongside her daughter in dramatic comedies Daddy and Them, David Lynch’s Inland Empire and White’s satirical show Enlightened, a TV series. She was also seen next to Sandra Bullock, a star in 28 Days, a movie, Anthony Hopkins in The World’s Fastest Indian, a film and with Jennifer Lawrence in the film Joy.

She also authored and oversaw the humorous movie Mrs Munck, a film which starred Diane Ladd and ex-husband Bruce Dern, an actor. “Bruce is an excellent performer,” she mentioned. “I was honored to direct him on a project. She was additionally the third cousin of playwright Tennessee Williams, who she called “a major inspiration throughout my life”.

During 2018, she received an incorrect diagnosis with a pulmonary condition and informed she only had half a year left yet she recovered completely when her daughter moved her to a different hospital.
