The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
