The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
