Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

One could easily to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Will the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
