More than 100 hundred million people, including at minimum 15 million minors, presently use e-cigarettes, propelling a new trend of nicotine habit, per latest global health reports.

Minors are, usually, nine times more prone than mature individuals to use e-cigarettes, per current international data.

Vaping devices are propelling a "new wave" of nicotine habit, remarked a senior health official. "These devices are promoted as harm reduction but, actually, are addicting youth on nicotine sooner and risk weakening decades of advancement."

Adolescents Being 'Targeted'

"Millions of individuals are ceasing, or not taking up tobacco consumption thanks to tobacco restriction initiatives by states around the globe," the representative stated.

"As an answer to this significant advancement, the tobacco sector is resisting with recent nicotine products, actively focusing on adolescents. Governments must act quicker and more forcefully in applying tested tobacco-control measures," the official further stated.

The vaping figures are a projection since several states - 109 in total, and several in African and Asian regions - lack statistics.

Per the report, as of February this period, at least 86 million e-cigarette consumers were grown-ups, mostly in wealthy countries.

And at least 15 million adolescents aged 13 and 15 currently vape, according to studies from 123 states.

While several countries have attempted to introduce e-cigarette policies to combat underage vaping in the past few years, by the conclusion of 2024, 62 states even now had no measure in place, and 74 nations had no minimum age at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be bought, reports the health authority.

At the same time, tobacco consumption has been dropping - from an approximated 1.38 billion individuals in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Occurrence of tobacco use among women dropped the largest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

With males, the reduction was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But a fifth of adults internationally yet consumes tobacco.

Cigarette consumption is associated to many diseases, like cancer.

Professionals claim vaping is far less harmful than tobacco products, and can help you stop smoking. It is not recommended for non-smokers.

E-cigarettes do not burn tobacco and do not produce tar or carbon monoxide, a couple of the most damaging substances in tobacco fumes. They include nicotine, which can be addictive.
